RocketPlace Conference Will Use nTAG Interactive Badge Technology

RocketPlace, the premier conference for new eBay sellers and PowerSellers, will be using nTAG's interactive, wireless devices rather than traditional paper badges at their September 2008 event at The Rio in Las Vegas. nTAG makes meeting, connecting with, and sharing contact details with speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and other attendees much easier.

The nTAG badge is a wireless device with a small touch screen. nTAG makes networking easier through icebreaker and matchmaking capabilities that help connect you with the people you wanted to meet and should be meeting. RocketPlace attendees can control everything from their own login on the nTAG portal website. Here, they will be able to view and export information about all of the people with whom they exchanged electronic business cards.

nTAG also allows the audience to interact with live sessions through polling. The presenter can ask a multiple choice question, which will show up on the presentation screen. The attendee can vote using the nTAG device they are wearing, the selections are tallied in real time, and the results are shown immediately on the presentation screen.

The September 2008 RocketPlace event is the second time that As Was, eBay's first Certified Service Provider, is producing the conference. "We understood that one of the main reasons someone attends a conference is for the networking opportunities," explains As Was CEO Debbie Levitt. "The RocketPlace event is aimed at connecting new and veteran eBay sellers with great information as well as each other. nTAG is the perfect solution to make our event more interactive."

Levitt continued, "Of all the events thrown by eBay, eBay's third party providers, and trade associations of eBay sellers, this is the first eBay-related event to use the nTAG system. We look forward to a more interactive event as well as a greener event; using nTAG means we don't have to give out disposable badge cards or plastic badge holders."

RocketPlace has one track for beginners looking for the road map for eBay business success. A second track is for PowerSellers looking for tips on how to grow with all of eBay's recent changes as well as how to use the latest techniques, strategies, and tools to improve their eBay businesses. eBay Expands Pre-Filled Item Information

On Friday July 18th, eBay announced that it is expanding it's Pre-Filled Item Information to nearly 20 more categories.  Read eBay's official announcement here.

This is important for all merchants selling in these categories.  Why?  Because Best Match uses Item Specifics as an element of determining a product's place in search results.  And we can only presume that the more Item Pre-Fills that your listing has, the better it will perform in Best Match.  So, if you are a merchant selling in any of the categories mentioned in the announcement, you are affected.  Don't forget to contact your listing service (e.g. Kyozou, Channel Advisor, Auctiva, etc.) to make sure that they support these added features for these categories.

Have a great day!

Best wishes and good selling,
Jon

Fixed Price Listings are On Sale Now!

Yesterday, eBay announced a two-week sale on Fixed Price listings.  The official announcement, including information about restrictions, etc., can be found here.

Do you sell products that your customers might just want to buy right now, without having to wait for an auction to end?  If you haven't tried Fixed Price listings before, or if it's been a while since you have tested that listing format, now would be a great time to give that another try.  Schedule a few Fixed Price listings each day and see how they do for you.  Even better, take a look at Terapeak or HammerTap before you launch the FP Listings, so you'll have a good idea of which days of the week, and times of day, might be best for your test listings.  Finally, don't forget to optimize your titles with BayEstimator so that shoppers will have the best chance to find your items.

Since they are on sale, give Fixed Price listings a try - you might find they work well for you!

Good luck,
Jon

eBay Gives Peek at Revised Links Policy

eBay had announced an all-new links policy in May that brought a lot of grumpiness. We reacted as well, and let eBay know where we thought they missed the boat!

In early June, we spoke with some T&S people who clarified the new links policy for us, and we posted it to our Marketing Hall of Fame blog.

But eBay is saying HOLD ON. They have still been reworking the links policy, and here is the latest that they said:

Which links will be  allowed under the new Links policy?
We will not enforce the links policy in July as we originally announced on May 19, 2008. We will introduce a revised policy by mid-August, 2008 that will allow links to your ProStore and to non-transactional sites from your About Me page. To give sellers time to adjust, enforcement of the policy will begin four weeks after the revised policy is introduced.

So it sounds like the main changes from what we last broadcasted may be that the About Me can link to a ProStore and information-only pages. But clients and sellers who have been linking to their off-eBay selling websites may still have to take those links down.

eBay is Listening

In a move sure to be greeted with cheers by the selling community, eBay announced today that they will be reversing their recent policy decision to count neutral feedback as negatives.  Read the announcement here.

Further evidence that eBay is listening to its buying and selling community is that eBay will roll out a new resolution process for buyers and sellers to use, coming in October.  This is great news for buyers because merchants will have an incentive to help them resolve their issues.  Sellers benefit because eBay will give buyers a way to edit feedback, and possibly remove it altogether; if sellers do a good job of resolving problems for their customers, their customers will be able to respond by editing/removing feedback.

Lorrie wrote: I hope what I've shared with you today demonstrates our commitment to listening and responding quickly with solutions.

Lorrie, this is great.  Keep up the good work!
